At least eight pilgrims from the Indian state of Karnataka were killed and 12 others injured when their vehicle collided with a truck near the town of Mantralayam in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. The group of nearly 20 people from Chikkamagaluru district were on their way to visit the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, a renowned Hindu monastery, when the tragic accident occurred.
According to local authorities, the pilgrims were traveling in a multi-utility vehicle when it rammed into the rear of a stationary truck on the highway. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the deaths of eight passengers and leaving a dozen more with varying degrees of injuries. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that the driver of the pilgrims' vehicle may have lost control due to high speed or poor visibility on the road. Authorities have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and have promised a thorough inquiry into the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic loss of life.
