India-Africa Summit Postponed as Ebola Spreads to Conflict Zone in DR Congo
1 min read

The 2022 India-Africa summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi, has been postponed due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The decision was made as the deadly virus has now spread to an area controlled by the M23 rebel group in eastern DRC, further complicating efforts to contain the outbreak.
The Ebola outbreak, which began in August, has already claimed the lives of over 50 people in the North Kivu and Ituri provinces of DRC. Health officials have been working to track and isolate cases, but the task has been made significantly more difficult by the presence of armed groups in the region, including the M23 rebels.
The M23 group, which has been engaged in a long-running conflict with the Congolese government, now controls territory where Ebola cases have been reported. This has led to concerns that the outbreak could spread further, as the rebel group's presence has hindered the movement of health workers and the delivery of medical supplies. The postponement of the India-Africa summit is a reflection of the growing global concern over the Ebola crisis in the DRC and its potential to spread beyond the region.
