A tiger has escaped its enclosure near the city of Leipzig, Germany, injuring a 73-year-old man before being shot by police. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the town of Nebra, about 150 kilometers southwest of Berlin.
According to local media reports, the tiger was owned by a controversial performer who had been keeping the animal on private property. When the tiger broke free from its enclosure, it attacked and injured the elderly man, who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police were quickly dispatched to the scene and attempted to recapture the tiger. However, authorities say they were forced to shoot the animal after efforts to contain it proved unsuccessful. The tiger died from its injuries.
Investigators are now looking into how the tiger was able to escape its enclosure and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Animal welfare groups have raised concerns about the private ownership of large predators, calling for stricter regulations to prevent such dangerous situations from occurring.
