Nursery Worker Jailed for Toddler's Death in Her Care
1 min read

A nursery worker has been sentenced to over three years in prison, and the facility has been fined £240,000, after a 14-month-old boy died in their care. Noah Sibanda was physically restrained face-down with a blanket over his head while being put to sleep at the Fairytales Day Nursery in Dudley in December 2022. He was left unchecked for two hours before being found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The nursery worker responsible for Noah's care has been jailed for three years and two months for his manslaughter. Prosecutors argued that the worker's actions amounted to a gross breach of her duty of care, leading to Noah's tragic death. The nursery itself was also fined a substantial £240,000 for failures in its policies and procedures that contributed to the incident.
Noah's family has expressed their devastation over the loss of the young boy, who they described as a 'happy, healthy, and loving child.' They have called for greater accountability and improved safety standards in the childcare industry to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future.
