1 min read
An Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru experienced a tail strike incident during landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday. The Airbus A320neo aircraft, operating as flight AI 539, made contact with the runway surface with its tail section upon touchdown, causing damage to the aircraft.
According to reports, there were no injuries to the 176 passengers and 6 crew members on board the flight. The aircraft was grounded for inspection and repair following the incident. Air India has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the tail strike.
Tail strikes occur when the rear portion of an aircraft, known as the tail cone or empennage, makes contact with the runway during landing. This can result in structural damage to the aircraft and is considered a serious incident in aviation. Pilots are trained to monitor the aircraft's attitude and adjust the landing flare accordingly to prevent such occurrences.
