Massive Fire Rages at Kerala Waste Plant, Elephant Evacuated
1 min read

A massive fire broke out at a waste treatment plant in Munnar, Kerala, prompting authorities to evacuate a nearby wild elephant named Padayappa to safety. The blaze, which started on Monday evening, has been raging for over 24 hours, with firefighters struggling to bring it under control.
The fire is believed to have originated at the waste treatment plant operated by the Munnar Panchayat. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the site, raising concerns about the environmental impact. Authorities have deployed multiple fire engines and water tankers to the location, but the fire continues to spread due to the large volume of combustible waste materials.
In a separate incident, the Kerala Forest Department successfully evacuated a wild tusker named Padayappa from the area near the burning plant. Padayappa, a well-known elephant in the region, was moved to a safer location to prevent any harm from the ongoing fire. The department has been monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of the local wildlife.
