UN Chief Calls for End to Arms Flow as Sudan War Rages On
1 min read

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urgently called for an end to the flow of weapons into Sudan as the country's devastating civil war enters its fourth year. The conflict, which erupted in April 2019, has already claimed the lives of thousands and displaced millions more.
In a statement marking the war's third anniversary, Guterres condemned the continued violence and the devastating impact it has had on the Sudanese people. He emphasized that the influx of arms is only exacerbating the crisis, and urged all parties involved to prioritize a peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation.
The UN chief's plea comes amid ongoing clashes between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as various rebel groups. The fighting has devastated the country's infrastructure, disrupted essential services, and left many Sudanese in dire need of humanitarian aid. Guterres stressed that the international community must act swiftly to stem the tide of weapons and support efforts to bring about a lasting ceasefire and political settlement.
