Ebola Outbreak Spreads in Africa as US Cuts Global Health Funding
1 min read

A previously undetected outbreak of Ebola is coursing through parts of central Africa, and the US appears to be doing little to help stop it, after massive cuts to global and domestic public health efforts. There is no cure and no vaccine for the rare Bundibugyo variant of Ebola, which has caused two outbreaks in recent decades.
Health leaders and scientists are now racing to understand where the virus is spreading and attempting to stop it – but the US is notably absent in these efforts. Republican senators have also queried the timing and lack of detail in a secret service bid to add money to the Department for Homeland Security bill, potentially abandoning a $1 billion proposal for a Trump ballroom.
The Ebola outbreak is a concerning development, as the US has significantly reduced its global health funding and presence in recent years. Without a coordinated international response, the virus could continue to spread, putting vulnerable populations at risk. As the political wrangling continues in Washington, the urgent public health crisis in Africa demands immediate attention and action from the US government.
